Savvy Society Aims To Sell Shoes While Introducing Girls To Computer-Aided Design And 3-D Printing.
Alexa Fleischman, 27, launched Savvy Society last year with cofounder Lauren Wallace, 26. The company sells flat shoes for girls aged 6 to 12. Using a simple design program, the girls create custom decorations like flowers and snowflakes that attach to the $20 shoes. The attachments cost an additional $15 and are produced with a 3-D printer. The hope, Fleischman says, is that using a computer-aided design program will get girls excited about STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math).
